As Lord Mayor of Adelaide 2018-2022, Sandy ensured that environmental leadership continued to be one of four key pillars of the 2020-24 Strategic Plan for the City of Adelaide and was proud to lead the first Council in South Australia to use 100% renewable energy for all operations, halving emissions while saving costs and creating jobs.

Having worked in the city for more than 25 years in senior local government and cultural leadership roles, Sandy is a successful activation and cultural strategist and has fostered and developed some of Adelaide’s rich cultural experiences including the Adelaide Festival, WOMADelaide and the Adelaide Fringe. In each workplace she has introduced and championed policy and programs for control of waste streams, water and energy consumption and the use of alternate energies. It was no coincidence that she introduced Australian first Sustainable Events guidelines within one month of taking office in 2018.

Sandy believes we need to be ready and willing to trial and test, monitor and share learnings with others and that there has never been a greater need or greater opportunities – socially, culturally and economically – for governments at all levels to collaborate through peak bodies and with industry.
